Send a Smile 4 Kids: Christmas in July

I was first introduced to sketches with some of the various challenge blogs that I visit and I love them. They really lay down the basics for me or I would be sitting there for hours wondering if this or that looks right. I can't even decorate a wall, so making a card that has a nice focal point and highlights is beyond me.

It's been a few weeks since I purchased 101 Creative Card Sketches by Gloria Pouch as a Kindle Book. It's just one more tool that I can have on hand to help me make nice cards.

My first card today comes from the first sketch in the book and I wanted to share it here. I have to explain that I have a hodge podge of Christmas stamps that I purchased at a thrift store. Some are rubber stamps, some clear acrylic, but I really don't know too much about them. And that's kind of the fun of the whole project too. But I'm not going to be able to tell you who made them, because I don't know!

I used my Cricut Mini to cut out 3 little tree shapes from inch or so squares and layered them over a green, scalloped square. The trees are from Tablescapes Fall Winter (Tree 2) and the scalloped square is from  Elegant Edges. The stamped white oval is 2 1/2 inches x 1 inch. I had a Darice Embossing Folder for the red pannel and a little miscellaneous ribbon to finish this card.

The next cards weren't really a sketch, but just a very quick and easy card. I used snowflakes from the Winter Lace Cricut set. I sort of layered them up with embossed circles to make my own embellishment and put them on a panel embossed with another Darice embossing folder. I liked the white on blue and so I stamped the sentiments with Close to My Heart, Pacifica Ink. Same stamp set from my hodge, podge stamps but a different look. Maybe someone knows the name of this set ....??

Send a Smile 4 Kids would love to have your Christmas creations. I'm entering these two cards in the Christmas in July Challenge. Hope you'll take a look at all the wonderful cards there and maybe make some Send a Smile 4 Kids cards too.

Take care and have an awesome day!
